I have earlier written that the former General Governor of Canada, now the UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti, the Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean, is granted an audience with HRH The Crown Prince Regent (Crown Prince Haakon) on Tuesday 22 March 2011 at 2 p.m.
Jean's communications advisor has kindly given me some details about the former Governor General's program for her stay in Norway. Yesterday evening Jean participated in a dinner hosted by Deputy Secretary General Atle Leikvoll, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Besides the audience at the Royal Palace today, Jean will have a meeting with the Minister for the Environment and International Development, Erik Solheim, where a number of issues pertaining to Haiti will be discussed. Other meetings are also planned with NGOs and government representatives.
Jean will also travel to Finland this week to present UNESCO's strategy for Haiti reconstruction.
Jean's visit to Norway has not got any attention in the Norwegian media as far as I can tell. I don't get any hits about the visit when searching for her name at the websites of Norway's leading newspapers. She is not even included in Erik Solheim's calendar at the ministry's website! Obviously the Arab revolt and other events get more attention than Haiti these days.
Thank you for posting this blog about Hon. Michaëlle Jean's visit with the Crown Prince to present UNESCO's strategy for Haiti reconstruction.
